In between insults they seem to find a happy medium by agreeing they would never suit each other. Linnet Thynne is the beautiful young woman who finds herself in the unfortunate position of needing a husband to avoid scandal. Piers Yelverton, The Earl of Merchant, is a gifted physician in the area of diagnosis and treatment with the added gift of making his bedside insults scathing. James manages to touch on all of these topics without leaving the listener feeling depressed. No topic is safe, divorce, drug addiction, child abuse, to forgive or not to forgive. The narrator did a very good job with this story too. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good historical romance. Each story is completely separate from the others. Character development in this story was superb! This is the second book in a series but each can be read individually. The evolution of the relationship from this unlikely pair is absolutely amazing and consuming. The constant pain from his injury makes him angry and very easily irritable. A handsome brilliant doctor who has a very painful traumatic injury. He is very much like Gregory House from the series House MD. Her circumstances lead her to be engaged to the Beast. Beauty is a good girl with bad luck who is a victim of vicious gossip that destroys her reputation. I loooooved it!! This is a Beauty and the Beast tale.

This has been one of those audiobooks that makes me want to pause my everyday life and just listen to it. I just loved this happily ever after for adults! More please Instead there are sick patients, arguments and healing in the harsh but beautiful setting in Wales. Unlike the other regency novels there are no rivals, balls and the ton in this story. I love the banter and battle of the wits that ensues between them. He is a brilliant doctor but has no bedside manners, has horrible temper, is generally cranky and has a bad leg.

In this book the heroine Linnet(beauty) is almost faultless while the hero Piers is Dr.House of his time. In this series they were actually romantic as well as sensual and fits the story perfectly. For example, I really don't care for unnecessary long sex scenes and IMHO the author has put in just enough with fun twists.

I thought it was going to be a typical regency romance with the Beauty and the Beast storyline, but James sensei adds so much more too it. This is the second Happily Ever After book.
